African race par excellence

Three years after starting to pretend to be the “African race par excellence, following the change of continent ASO Dakar carrying the mythical land of South America, Africa seems to Eco Race starts getting what he wanted, in some respects to less.

With an enrollment of 85 teams, which include 40 cars and 20 trucks, this is the largest number of participants who were able to bind to date and tempers grow within the ‘staff’ directed by René Metge. They know that ‘large numbers’ of ASO in the career of Argentina and Chile are maintained by the largest number of registrations of that continent and that Europeans are beginning to consider new horizons … or perhaps return to the usual, in Senegal. I just miss get-no easy task-that any team official (and media) want to change careers.

On the other hand, remain suspended, and a worse note than ever, in terms of Spanish participants. Only two teams: Ricardo Vela and Francisco Mas aboard a Land Rover in the car category, and Rafa Tibau Tibau Rafa Jr. and Matt Sanchez in the cab of a truck Mercedes Unimog wanted to join the Race … For Africa Apparently, the recent incidents in Laayoune (Western Sahara) have ‘discouraged’ some others who were initially interested in face to face with JL Schlesser or Hubert Auriol, who returns to compete (perhaps tired of ‘looking the bulls from the barrier “) on board a Predator buggy.

The tour

The administrative and technical checks were carried out in a scenario already watched some ‘Dakar’: Lastours Chateau in southern France. Will be on 27 December and from there the competitors undertake a long march to Almeria, where fly to Nador, and in Morocco, where the real competition begins.

The organizers have tried that early stages are varied terrain, avoiding the ‘sea of rocks’ to the mechanics do not suffer too much and can be reserved for the harshness that offer the tour to come to Mauritania. From there, lots of sand, more than ever, will test the skill in navigating competitors, also their skills in the dunes, a real and ongoing challenge.

With fewer miles binding (at some stages throughout the tour will be timed section), participants
can discover all facets of the African land, off-track, fast roads, vegetation, green valleys, and crossing the sands of the Sahara -as stated by the organization from its website, short on other types of explanations, before arriving at Lac Rose in Dakar after more than 5,000 km rally.
